Astrological Makeover Series ♡☺︎♡

I would like to invite you all to my channel Listen to the Stars for a new series called ASTROLOGICAL MAKEOVERS. Around the time that I was in Sedona there was a lot of talk about appearance and astrology. During a live questionnaire a viewer asked if the nakshatras had any influence on appearance and the response from me and the astrologers who were with me fielding questions was “no.” In both Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra and (from what I understand) Jataka Parijata there are references to the grahas (planets) affecting appearance, but no references to the nakshatras and their influence on one’s appearance. This upset several people. So, I decided to dig further and learn as much as I could about nakshatras vs. grahas affecting appearance. After talking to both Eve Medonza and Dr. Arjun Pai I learned that a lot of personal research is currently being done to understand the influence of nakshatras on appearance, but it is still in progress. I find this work very fascinating and important and I am really glad I took the time to ask some opinions from some very knowledgeable professional astrologers.

In the meantime, we have evidence from published astrological texts linking the grahas to appearance. The correlations between grahas and appearance is undeniable! In my own chart and the charts of those I love I see Venus creating curly hair, Moon giving round faces and Sun causing baldness. It is fascinating and so easy to see once you are familiar with each planet and how it shows up physically.

Understanding how grahas affect appearance also works as an incredible learning device as each physical quality of a graha has a deeper implication. For example, hair represents something that we can not control in the same way that we can control our hands. In this way Sun’s baldness shows that the Sun “has little interest in that which he has no control over” (Graha Sutras p.163). Hair also keeps a record of our past. Hair analysts can easily see times of trauma or vitamin deficiencies via a thorough examination of a strand of hair. Sun lacking hair shows that he is not interested in the past and is more inclined towards being productive in the present moment.

This series will be really fun but also act as a mnemonic device to make the understanding of each planet happen more quickly. Teaching about the planets visually will allow the planetary symbolism to soak in on a deeper, subconscious level as well.

The makeovers will include the transformation of hair, makeup and clothing. The descriptions of the planets are taken directly from either the Graha Sutras by Ernst Wilhelm or my copy of Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, both of which may vary in their interpretations and translations. This allows me a bit more creativity and flexibility with my looks. It is my understanding that Ernst Wilhelm looked towards both Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra and the Jataka Parijata in the creation of Graha Sutras. These are both foundational texts on vedic astrology.

It should be noted that each of these planets would go about doing their makeup in very different ways, with some of these planets likely not wearing any makeup at all. In each of my videos I will mention whether or not a certain planet would be inclined to wear makeup, but in all of my videos I will be applying makeup in a more exaggerated way for the sake of Youtube and also to more clearly demonstrate some of the symbolism of the planets in a very obvious way. I will certainly be taking some creative liberties in this series, but will do my best to clarify what those are within the videos.

I hope you all will enjoy this astrological series! I am interested in all things new and fun and astrology deserves a little dose of that now and again :). By the way, I did my best to choose cruelty free and natural makeup, but am pretty much stuck using what I have for now. I just want to put it out there that my preference is natural, vegan and cruelty free rather than chemically laden products although you will be seeing quite a bit of unnatural products in these videos (speaking of which, you are always welcome to sponsor a video here, which will really help with the production of these more intensive videos!). I am always looking for some solid clean brands to use so please let me know if you have any recommendations as well. 

I also wanted to note that I am very interested in creating looks for Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, but have yet to find mention of them in the old texts. If anyone reading this has some decent resources on those planets then please feel free to send them my way!
